Who Is Eminem?
If you’re into hip hop then you know who Eminen is (real name Marshall Matthews) – but did you know that he has sold over seventy million albums worldwide, and is one of the highest-selling rap artists of all time.
He hails from St. Joseph, Missouri and was raised by his mother after his father left them just after Marshall’s birth. Eminem recalls moving many times with his mother in the Detroit area which is always unsettling for a kid. But as a teenager, he found hip-hop and started at the age of 14 using “M&M” as his moniker.
The candy people, however, had something to say about that and so Marshall started using Eminem. In 1995, M&M as he was then called joined the group Soul Intent and soon released his first single, “Fuckin’ Backstabber”.
Eminem followed up the next year with his album Infinite that was widely received in the subculture of hip-hop. What was really amazing is that Eminem as a white guy had to prove himself in a genre that was almost exclusively black musicians and singers. Eminem has shown his talent and now it seems fellow rapper 50cents has a lot to say about Eminem on news and blogs everywhere that his friend has not turned into a blimp as recently reported. Pictures on the net, if they really are Eminen, do show a rather bloated guy but hey, as long as Eminem continues to keep rapping his fans will be right there, rapping right along.
Eminem is one of several pop stars scheduled to appear at Nelson Mandel’s upcoming 90th birthday party. It will be great to see this talented guy on the stage again after a recent illness had the rumor mill buzzing. Having sold over 70 million albums, Eminem is the best selling music artist of the decade and rates among the best in the evolution of hip hop.
